Go Rhody!

Picture2I can’t stress the importance of turning every vacation into some sort of sportscation. If you are like me then you know what I mean. I spent the last week of August at the beach in Rhode Island.  We stayed in a great little town on the coast called Narragansett. I can’t spend a week at the beach let alone two hours without being bored out of my mind so I made sure to scope out the local sports scene prior to leaving. I already knew that the Tennis Hall of Fame was located close by in Newport, Rhode Island. Also as any real sports fan would do I made sure to stay close by to the local college sports scene. The University of Rhode Island is the best they got for the area. All I then needed to figure out was a way to make this family vacation into a nice little sports trip.

Picture4While my wife toured the mansions in Newport I told her I was heading to the Tennis Hall of Fame instead. When my wife needed me to go get baby food I made sure to pass by the URI football field on the way. Minor detour. It happened to be last Friday right before their game the following day against Fordham. I got to watch what appeared to be a closed practice aside from me watching. Awesome experience.  It was pretty cool checking out the practice. I also stopped by the Thomas Ryan arena on campus on my way out the parking lot. Also on the way out much to my liking the URI cheerleaders happened to be practicing. All I could think of is how much I missed college walking by them. I snapped a few photos for the blog as the cheerleaders looked at me like some creep. In any event I was able to get my sports fill while away. Go Rhody!
